Dedicated to exonerating the innocent in Tennessee

Under the current justice system, it is nearly impossible for an incarcerated person in Tennessee to prove their actual innocence without the necessary resources.

We exist to change that.

The Tennessee Innocence Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to investigating and litigating claims of actual innocence.

Through legal advocacy, policy reform, re-entry support, and public education, we work to ensure that justice is not determined by access to resources.

People we've helped exonerate

According to the National Registry of Exonerations,
there have been nearly:

4,000 wrongful convictions in the U.S. since 1989

Since 1989, thousands of people in the U.S. have been exonerated after being wrongfully convicted. Collectively, they lost over 35,000 years of their lives — years stolen for crimes they didn’t commit. We know there are thousands more.

Behind each number is a person whose voice deserves to be heard.

There have always been innocent people in prison in Tennessee. There just were not enough people fighting on their behalf.
